Sandra A. Martin broke her own rules on
July 4, 2008. “The rape had occurred in the wee morning
hours and there was fresh evidence,” she recalls. So, it was
Martin who – against protocol – ended up driving the little girl
and her mother to the hospital early on that holiday morning after
the girl’s forensic interview with the Center for Child Protection’s
staff and police officers. Despite their ordeal, as the mother
and child got out of the car, they “were so grateful and thanked
